Recipe : Valentine's Day Heart of Gold Brownies
With Valentine's Day fast approaching, I thought that I would do a Valentine's Day themed post. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Valentine's Day, but I can see the appeal of wanting to celebrate love with other people.
Today's post is a recipe for Heart of Gold Brownies, which would be a lovely Valentine's present for your partner, or something a couple could do together on the day. They could also be treats for your friends, if you are single & planning on spending the day with them.
To be honest, they could be for any occasion, not just Valentine's Day!
Ingredients
Utensils
2 x Bowls
Wooden Spoon/s
Baking tin
Greaseproof paper
Whisk (normal or electric)
Heart shape cutter
Cooling Rack
Method
1 : Pre-heat the oven to 180°C/ Gas Mark 4.
2 : In the first bowl, melt 125g of dark chocolate & the baking butter together, until smooth & combined. I did this using a microwave in 20 second bursts & stirring, but can also use the bain-marie method.
3 : In the second bowl, whisk together the sugar & eggs, but don't overdo this.
4 : Once whisked together, add the egg-sugar mixture to the melted chocolate bowl, along with the salt, flour, baking powder & 80g of the white chocolate (that has been broken into chunks). Fold together to combine the ingredients.
5 : Pour the mixture into a greaseproof papered tin and bake near the centre of the oven for 30 mins/until springy in the middle.
6 : Whilst this is in the oven, wash up your two bowls and prepare them for melting the rest of the chocolate. Don't melt yet.
7 : Once baked, turn out onto your cooling rack, and leave to cool down.
8 : Once cool, cut out heart shapes using the cutter. You will have excess cooked brownie, which can be moulded into the cutter to form more hearts (however, these will be hardered to cover in chocolate & spray), or you can just eat it!
9 : Once cut out, leave to one side, and melt the chocolate you prepared earlier.
10 : Dip & cover half of the hearts with white chocolate & the other half with dark chocolate. This is a personal choice, so if you wanted to do milk chocolate, you can.
11 : Place these in the fridge to set.
12 : Once set, spray them with the edible gold spray, making sure you get all the edges.
Leave to dry.
(Extra : You can also buy silver spray, so you could spray half with gold & half with silver. Completely up to you guys!)
13 : Once set, enjoy them!
And that is how you make Heart of Gold Brownies!
They are very sweet, chocolately and look pretty. I think they would make a great gift for Valentines and I hope you guys try to make them.
If you do, tag me on Instagram (@shannonanne2303), as I would love to see how they turned out.
Happy Valentine's Day!
