2013 Beauty and Fashion favourites - Make up
Today's 2013 favourites post is about all the make up I enjoyed using this year. There a few that will probably stay with me and then a few that I will change through the year.
Brushes
The first make up based favourite are my Real Techniques Brushes. I am in love with these and I can't wait to collect all of them. They are so soft, don't pick up too much product and are easy to clean. I can't imagine my life without them now.
Another brush favourite from 2013 is this eye blending brush from ELF. It is just the perfect size for blending product in the crease, as I find the Real Techniques eye blending brush a little too big to applying product in the crease. This brush is super cheap and really soft. Perfect for make up beginners and for pros.
Eye and brow products
The first eye product favourite has to go to my Avon Mega Effects mascara in blackest black. This is truly revolutionary! I have never used a mascara like this that makes it super easy to get every single lash on both top & bottom. It does take a while to get used to applying mascara in a different way, but it is definalty worth a try.
This is without a doubt, one of the best shadow pencils I have ever used. It is a beautiful champagne colour from Collection - Work the colour eyeshadow pencils. They are so creamy to apply and once they have set, I can guarentee that it will not budge all day. It is a lovely base for a more detailed eye look and an easy product to use in a rush.
The next is a cream shadow by Maybelline. I am sure you all have heard of the colour tattoos but I couldn't not mention it! The colour I have is Permentant taupe and it the most perfect grey/taupe base colour. You could even use it on its own if you are in a rush.
This has been my favourite brow product of the year! The ELF brow duo in Medium has given me the best looking brows I have ever had. I used to use a light brown shadow for my brows but I am so happy that I changed to this product.
This is the AVON Always on Point black eyeliner pencil. I adore this product as it is super creamy and pigmented, plus it sharpens in the lid! I mainly use it in my waterline as I prefer to use a gel liner or shadow for a cateye. I can't wait to order a new one, as it really upsets me that it has run out now.
My favourite palette of 2013 has been my MUA undress me too palette, which has been used so much this year. I prefer to use the dark colours as the lighter ones are not as pigmented. They are some matte and some shimmery ones which blend well and are super pigmented. You do get fall out but for £4, I don't think you can complain that much. I also have the Undressed palette and I am looking forward to buying more MUA palettes.
Base/Face
The first face product in my 2013 faves is this blush from ELF. It is the colour Blushing Rose and for me, is a perfect A/W colour. I hardly wear blusher in the summer, so when it gets to A/W, I like to put some colour on my cheeks. It's a cheap product but doesn't feel cheap. You can build it nicely, as the picture above shows.
My favourite foundation and concealer of 2013 have been the L'Oreal Eau de Teint foundation in porcelain and the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in Fair 1. Now, I could live without the foundation, as it was good but I am looking forward to finding my perfect foundation this year. However, it has been one of the best foundations I have tried this year. I like the lightness of it and how well it sits on my skin, on my non-dry days. But on my dry skin days, it flakes so much. The concealer is beauty must-have. I don't think I know a single beauty blogger who hasn't tried this concealer. I will be forever repurchasing this!
Now time for my fave bronzer of the year, which is the MUA mosaic bronzer in shade 1. It is a beautiful golden brown colour, which doesn't make my pale skin look orange. I will be repurchasing this, as it is so cheap for a good product, but I am also tempted to buy the honey bronzer from The body shop. That bronzer has been highly talked about and it meant to be a god-send for pale skin!
For my setting items, I have chosen my Rimmel Stay Matte powder and my ELF make up mist & set spray. I love using the Rimmel powder for all occasions but I keep the spray for when I want my make up to last for a long time. I was very nervous about using a spray but it does dry, and keep the make up in place all night, even in a sweaty club! The powder has been a must have for years. I don't think I will be trying many other face powders, as this one is super cheap and is so effective.
This has been highlighter of the year. It is the AVON illuminating face pearls. I love using these on nights out when I want a more glowing look to the face. They just add a beautiful pink toned glow with it being too shimmery. I have used these face pearls for years now, and I don't think I will want to try something new. Other than the Soap & Glory one! I would love to try that!
Lips
Swatches are in order.
This has been another product that beauty bloggers have raved about this year. I have the colour Big Bang from the Rimmel Apocalips. I love wearing this as it stays on, through eating etc and the colour is so bright! I would recommend that everyone tries these lacqers and I can't wait to buy more of them in different colours.
I am not much of a lipgloss girl but I have adored this one for about 7 years now! I was so upset though when it was discontinued a few years back. It is the Dior Ultra reflect gloss in 757 Red Stockings. So, when I found out that this was going to be gone, I purchased two more of them! Now, years later, I am still using it and loving it. I just love the colour, how it isn't sticky and the slight shimmer it has in it. You can wear this on its own or over a red lipstick, for a more high-shine effect.
2013 was the year of the balm stain/chubby stick/gloss stick. My favourite has to be the Sexy Mother Pucker gloss stick from Soap & Glory, in the shade Nudist. It is the most perfect lip product to just throw on in a rush. It smells good and just makes your lips look healthy. I am tempted to try the other shades in the range as I can't get enough of this!
Now, for matte lip products, you want something that is still hydrating without looking shiny. My fave matte product is the ELF matte lip colour in rich red. The colour is slightly more pinky red than a bright red, but it lasts for such a long time, even when you are eating. Such a soft formula, yet still looks matte on the lip. Cheap and a good product! What more do you want?
Now, this was a weird favourite for me. I didn't think I was going to like this as much as I do. It is the ELF lip stain in red. Basically, it looks and feels like a felt tip is being put on your lips, but I have to say that it doesn't dry my lips out, like I thought it would. I tend to wear this under red lipsticks to help make the product last longer. A great and unexpected fave from my make up collection.
Lipstick-wise, this has to be my favourite of the year. A classic my-lips-but-better nude from the Rimmel Kate Moss range. The shade is 08 and it is so creamy in texture. It is a must-have for me and I think I will be repurchasing this when I need to.
Final fave lip product is my lip balm of the year, which is the Soap and Glory - A great kisser in Vanilla Bean. It does have a slight colour to it but it smells & tastes so good! I always have this in my bag when I go out, to help keep my lips hydrated. It may be on the pricey side of £5 for a lip balm, but, for me, it is worth it.
Nails
My first nail product is my Barry M basecoat/topcoat/nail hardener. I normally don't like the three in one kind of polishes like this, but this one has converted me. It is super cheap and does work well as all three. I use it more as a topcoat than the other two, but when I am travelling, it is easy to just take this product. I am a huge fan of Barry M polishes, so I shouldn't really be that shocked that this is a good product!
Right, I am going to talk about them all together instead of splitting them up, as I feel I would be repeating myself alot. The first one is the Barry M Gelly polish in Blackberry, the second is Illamasqua polish in Unnatural and the final one is NYC In a Minute in Walter street blue. For me, they are my 3 favourites as they all last a long time, colour pigementation is amazing and the formulations are good. They have been the three most reached for this year and I am excited to try new ones by each brand.
Right, that is my favourite make up products from 2013. Are any of yours the same as mine? Any recommendations?
Bye
